  1.             SUBJECT  : 386 Upgrade Problem

  7. GENERAL INFO :  I had a user that was upgrading a file server
  8.         from Netware 286 to 386, with over 100 users
  9.         defined on the 286 server. He had a problem in
  10.         which the uprgade utility (both 1.0 and 1.1)
  11.         would not move the login script to the proper
  12.         mail subdirectory.  For each user, the     Upgrade
  13.         utility created two mail subdirectories.  One
  14.         directory was the same one as in Netware 286 and
  15.                 the other one was the new subdirectory. The login
  16.                 script would be moved to the old subdirectory but
  17.                 the bindery would look to the new subdirectory
  18.                 and would not be able to find it. The obvious
  19.                 answer would be to copy the login file from
  20.                 the old directory to the new one, but that would
  21.                 be very cumbersome for 100 plus users.

  23.         To make sure that the customer was doing
  24.         everything properly, we ran upgrade several times.
  25.         Each time, we ended up with the same results.

  28. PROBLEM  :    Corrupt binderies on the 286 file server.
  29.  
  30. SOLUTION  :    Run Bindfix on the 286 file server, down it,
  31.         bring it back up, rerun Upgrade.

  33. COMMENTS :    I have taken 386 calls for three months and never
  34.         heard of the problem.  Then I had two different
  35.         sites with this exact same problem in one day.
  36.         In one case all I had to do was to run upgrade on
  37.         the mail directories.  The other case, the user
  38.         had to reinitialize volume SYS on the 386 file
  39.         server and redo a full upgrade.
